Andrew Strauss vows to unite the England Team

In the aftermath of the Pietersen- Moores debacle, the England fans will be fully behind him when the new captain Andrew Strauss vows to unite the England team.

After his appointment as the new England test captain (no decision yet has been made on the one-day captain), Strauss’ first job will be to make sure the entire dressing room is fully behind him and united as a team. A key component of this will be Kevin Pietersen who, after resigning (before he could be sacked) has asked for time to himself to gather his thoughts. Strauss will be keen to ensure that Pietersen is fully on-board and will give his all for the team on its tour to the West Indies later this month.

Strauss is a totally different character to Pietersen, dressing more formally and having a look more welcomed by the cricketing establishment (no earrings or colourful hairstyles as sported by Pietersen).

Strauss denied that the rifts within the England team were as bad as made out by the press and vowed to use all his people skills to unite the England team.

Strauss worked well with Duncan Fletcher (previous England coach) and places a great deal of importance on togetherness as a team and sorting out any problems internally rather than doing things in public. He is a strategic thinking person believes in doing plenty of preparation before matches – he will do things in his own time and in his own way.
Once the new coach is selected,

Strauss will need to make sure they have the same goals and ambitions and hopes for the team; Strauss will have some definite views on how the team should move forward and it is imperative that him and the new coach work well together, otherwise we could be revisiting this sorry affair in a few months time.

My own view is that I am not sure Strauss is the right man to lead England; we need a strong forceful character that can rally the troops and inspire players to perform to their peak (and sometimes exceed themselves). Strauss’ school teacher type demeanour and his lack of emotion on the pitch does not inspire me that he’ll do a good job…I can see the Aussies licking their lips already!!
